Tip's Food and Travel

I have been living in the U.S. for many years and have been to many festivals. This time I had an opportunity to go to the Mile of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin with my husband.

มาอยู่ที่อเมริกาก็หลายปี ไปงานเฟสติวัลแถบ Midwest ก็หลายงานอยู่ คราวนี้ได้มีโอกาสติดสอยห้อยตามสามีไปที่เมืองAppleton ในรัฐ Wisconsin เพื่อไปดูงาน Mile of Music

I admired their concept. They spreads the music into local vendors such as bar, pub, brewery, hotel or even Mall.

ต้องขอชมเชยคนคิด concept จริงๆ เพราะ theme งานเก๋มาก ไม่มีการปิดถนนตั้งเวที มีแต่เวทีเดียวที่เป็นกลางแจ้ง อยู่ใกล้ๆmuseum เวทีที่เหลือทั้งหมด เข้าไปอยู่ข้างในผับ บาร์ brewery  โรงแรม Mall ทั้งหมด เป็นการกระจายรายได้ให้ร้านค้า local ของเมือง

 

This is the only outdoor stage and it started in late afternoon and finished before dark.

รูปแรกเป็นเวทีกลางแจ้งที่เดียว งานเริ่มบ่ายๆ

 

It stated quite late at the pub.

ถ้าเป็นตามผับก็จะเริ่มเย็นนิดนึง

 

You can find not only a band but even a solo singer. This guy is really good. I like his music very much.

เล่นเดี่ยวก็มี คนนี้เล่นเพราะมาก มีสาวสวยมานั่งขาย CD ของเค้าด้วยนะคะ 

 

One of the special things at Mile of Music was Free bus! Even though you can walk from bar to bar but it’s quite a long walk. We didn’t take a bus because we wanted to see the town and enjoyed the atmosphere at this lovely Appleton town. The high light for people who take a bus was they had a free live music  🙂

แถมมีรถบัสรับ-ส่งตามจุดที่กำหนด เนื่องจากแต่ละร้านอยู่กระจายกันไป ถามว่าเดินได้มั๊ย มันก็ได้อยู่นะเพราะตอนไปก็เดินเอา คอยแวะดูตามร้าน เพราะที่งานเค้าจะมีตารางบอกว่าวงไหนเล่นที่ร้านไหน กี่โมง แต่ไฮไลท์สำหรับคนที่ขึ้นรถบัสที่เค้าจัดไว้คือจะมีนักดนตรีเล่นอยู่บนรถด้วย เรียกได้ว่าระหว่างนั่งรถก็จะมี live music ให้ฟังตลอดทาง 

 

Another good thing about this festival was a variety of music. Doesn’t matter how young you are or how old you are (Aham…), you can enjoy and have fun with everyone. You don’t have to worry how late you will hang around out there, they had policemen walked around to make sure that everyone is ok.

ข้อดีอีกอย่างคือ มีดนตรีให้ฟังทุกประเภท ไม่ว่าจะเป็นขา Dance หรือ ขา Rock มีวงให้ฟังแน่นอน ไม่จำกัดวัย เพราะฉะนั้นงานนี้มีคนทุกเพศ ทุกวัย ตั้งแต่เด็กที่มากับคุณพ่อ-คุณแม่ วัยรุ่นที่มากับเพื่อน ไปจนถึงคู่คุณลุงคุณป้าวัยเกษียณ มีตำรวจคอยเดินตรวจตามถนน ดูแลความปลอดภัยตอนดึกๆด้วย

 

 

They had even a food truck!

ดึกหน่อยก็จะมี food truck มาจอดหน้าบาร์ที่ไม่มีอาหารเสิร์ฟ

 

The most important purpose of this festival is they supported many local musicians as well as bigger name performers. One of the famous musicians is Cory Chisel, an Americana, folk rock from Appleton. He and his band had performed on famous Talk show; The Late Show with David Letterman, Late night with Jimmy Fallon, and Conan. He also toured with Norah Jones in 2012.

สำคัญของงานนี้คือ คุณไม่จำเป็นต้องเป็นนักดนตรีตามค่ายดังๆถึงจะมีสิทธิ์มาเล่นเพราะงานนี้เค้าสนับสนุนคนดนตรี ศิลปิน นักแต่งเพลง ที่ทำเพลงกันเอง มีกลุ่มแฟนคลับของตัวเอง คนดังมีอยู่หลายคนที่มาร่วม เช่น the Baseball Project, Langhorne Slim, Robert Ellis, Sturgill Simpson แต่คนที่สำคัญของงาน คือ Cory Chisel เค้าเป็น Americana, folk rock จากเมือง Appleton นี่เอง เคยเล่นดนตรีออกรายการ talk show ชื่อดังของอเมริกาชื่อ The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan และ Late night with Jimmy Fallon รวมทั้งยังเคยออก tour กับ Norah Jones เมื่อปี 2012

The great thing about Mile of Music is it’s FREE! You just came in the mood to listen a good music 🙂

One of the questions that I had was did they play for free? The answer is No, every musician get pay too. My following questions was who pay them when they don’t charge for the entry fee? Cory told us they have many sponsors who support this awesome festival; Radio station, T.V. station, Tourism board, hotel or even university.

สิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดคือ งานนี้ฟรีคะ ไม่ต้องเสียเงินค่าบัตรเข้าชม แค่เดินตัวเปล่าพร้อมกับหัวใจที่รักเสียงเพลงก็พอ 🙂
คำถามตามมาคือ แล้วคนมาเล่นดนตรีนี่มาเล่นกันฟรีเหรอ คำตอบคือไม่คะ เค้าได้เงินด้วย แต่คำถามที่ตามมาคือ ใครจ่ายเงินละงานนี้เพราะทุกอย่างฟรีหมด… เค้ามี sponsor ที่ช่วย support ณ ตรงนี้เยอะมาก ทั้งร้านค้า รายการวิทยุ สถานีโทรทัศน์ หน่วยงานการท่องเที่ยวท่องถิ่น โรงแรม หรือแม้แต่มหาวิทยาลัย 

 

From what I saw and was part of this cool festival, I realized that this town is doing everything to support the tourism. They are trying to bring more tourists to their lovely Appleton. During the festival, every hotel was fulled, many restaurants, bars or pubs had many customers, many musicians from many places came to make the connection. Local people and tourists from other city or state came to see the free music and they were very happy. I think this is one of a good example of Win-Win situation 🙂

ได้ไปเห็นงานดีๆแบบนี้ ทำให้เรารู้เลยว่าเมืองนี้เค้าสนับสนุนด้านการท่องเที่ยวทุกทาง ทุกคน ทุกหน่วยงาน ร่วมมือกันอย่างดี เพื่อดึงให้นักท่องเที่ยวจากเมืองอื่นหรือรัฐอื่นมาเที่ยวที่เมืองเค้า โรงแรมเต็มทุกที่ ร้านค้าต่างๆก็มีลูกค้าเพิ่ม นักดนตรีทั้งเดี่ยวและกลุ่มต่างก็มาสร้าง friendship และ connection คนที่มางานก็ happy ได้ฟังดนตรีฟรี win win situation จริงๆ
